The Good Shepherd Curriculum
The program of religious education at
Montessori Episcopal School is two-fold;
experiential and instructional. Worship is
based on the Good Shepherd curriculum.
Services are conducted once a week in the
church chapel and once a week in the
classrooms with the children as active
participants. The Christian school
environment allows the children to
experience the fullness of life in
companionship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Good Shepherd curriculum is a part of
the daily classroom routine. The Good
Shepherd curriculum is a multi-sensory
program, which further encourages the
development of the whole child. Basic to
our program of Christian education is the
fostering, by word and deed, of
self-respect, respect for others, and for
God and His creation.
The Good Shepherd Curriculum is our religious curriculum at
MES. Children receive a presentation
lesson on the Good Shepherd materials once
a week. After they see the lesson, they
are free to use the material. The
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is based
on the work of Maria Montessori and was
developed by Dr. Sophia Cavaletti, a
Catholic Hebrew scholar, and Gianna Gobbi,
a Montessori educator, in 1954. The Good
Shepherd calls the child to a closer
relationship with God. The lessons
relate to the parables, prophecies,
geography, and the life of Jesus. Along
with the Good Shepherd, we promote a
Christian environment at MES. The
staff prays together every morning, and
they receive a Good Shepherd presentation
every Wednesday morning. We bless meals
and have altars in the classroom which the
children are free to use for prayer and
reflection time.
