Computer Classes:
Each student will participate in a 45 minute computer lesson each week. Children learn that people control technology and that they themselves can control a computer; by exploration with educational software, the computer will become a familiar tool. Children will learn how to open programs, follow visual and auditory cues, change programs, return to program menu and main menu. They will practice mouse movement. They will begin to learn how to close programs and shut them down properly. Students will strengthen pre-reading and reading skills as well as basic math concepts through educational software.
Library:
Montessori Episcopal School has been in operation for over 42 years. During those years, the school has dedicated funds and held twice yearly fundraisers in order to build and maintain a lending library with over 8000 books, videos and educational materials. Students visit the library once a week and experience a great story time by the MES librarian. Children are allowed to browse all the books in the library. All have been carefully chosen with children in mind. They may want to take home a storybook and an atlas or maybe a book about Siberian huskies and a drawing book. They are allowed to take home whatever interests them. Parents are encouraged to read, discuss and look at the pictures in whatever book the child brings home. Children who read are assisted with choosing books on their reading level. The library has graded reading material for many grade levels. Through this library program children are exposed to excellent children’s literature which aids in developing a lifelong love of books and reading.
Physical Education Classes:
All classes will participate in a physical education class once a week and elementary students twice a week. To ensure a healthy future, children are given the knowledge of the importance of daily physical activity that will lead to good health. Students participate in a large variety of physical games and motor skills that will enhance their overall health. Through these physical activities with a qualified PE coach the children’s large and small motor skills are developed as well as hand and eye coordination. Students experience the fun and enjoyment that can come from leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Spanish Classes:
In this weekly class, we will explore the Spanish language and culture with a lot of fun mixed in. The highly interactive curriculum is student-centered and tailored to student’s age levels. Topics we will cover include: Spanish countries and cultures, family members, numbers, colors, fruits and vegetables, body parts, weather and much more.
